About Nightfall
-
Nightfall is the forthcoming poetry anthology from a thousand flowers books. It explores what nighttime means — in all its dimensions.
We invited poets of all backgrounds and levels of experience to interpret the theme of night—and the response was extraordinary. We received poems from poets around the world.
-
Nightfall is published by a thousand flowers books, a women-led independent poetry press. Our mission is to expand the diversity and reach of poetry — weaving connections between people, creating opportunities for poets, and growing the range and number of poetry readers around the world.
Our previous anthology, When Flowers Sing, included 90 poems from 66 poets across the globe and received starred reviews from Indie Reader and praise from Kirkus Reviews.
-
Our selection process is feeling-based. We welcome first-time poets alongside award-winners, and we choose what moves us.
We received so many poems. Our editorial team is reading every single one with care.

When will I hear back?
-
We hope to let poets know of our decisions by the Fall of 2026. We will update this page if that changes.
Please do not email us about your submission status before that date — we are a small team reading thousands of poems, and we can get to all of the emails because we are busy reading submissions!
-
Yes. Every poet who submitted will receive a response, whether or not their work is selected. We believe poets deserve to know either way.
-
We ask that you please don’t email us about your submission status. We hope this FAQ answers all of your questions. We are a small press with a large volume of submissions to read, and we want to give every poem the attention it deserves.
If you have a time-sensitive situation — for example, if your poem has been accepted elsewhere and you need to withdraw it — please do email us at submissions@athousandflowers.org, and we will do our best to respond quickly.
